Last month of November, we helped with donations to feed 400 families, or 800 people at the Children of the City annual Thanksgiving food drive. This amazing charity, Children of the City, has reached thousands of children at home, school, and on the streets and playgrounds since its inception in 1981. As you know, my website focuses on the education and well being of our youth. Visit www.roccobasile.net
This year we went to different food distributors and asked them to donate turkeys and canned foods. We obtained enough food to feed more than 800 people, which my family and I, and other members of Children of the City helped distribute to the families. We had lots of fun, and it felt great to help people in need.
It seems nearly impossible to effectively reach and change the lives of many families with support like this -- but Children of the City is improving their quality of life by breaking the cyclical effects of poverty and giving them future hope. The charity serves underprivileged children and families in the inner-city communities of Southwest Brooklyn, helping them to overcome welfare and poverty. Many of the families affiliated with this program now have kids that have completely turned away from lifestyles of violence, overcoming substance abuse, alcoholism, and other challenges.
Throughout the year the organization maintains current information on over 500 families in the community, giving them encouragement and many resources. But most importantly, the charity gives people hope to have a better future.
